Our History:

 Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre was founded in May, 2006, to meet the needs of talented dancers that were available to dance, choreographers that were ready to create new works, and San Antonio audiences that were hungry for a fresh approach and a new experience with ballet. In our first season, we produced two concerts (Dec. '06 and May '07). Reflecting our desire to collaborate with other artists, we were accompanied by violinist, Stephanie Sant'Ambrogio and pianist Kristin Roach in Stravinsky's "Suite Italienne," and by rock guitarist Jon Schmidt and drummer David Haddad in "A Little Bit of Zeppelin." We featured New York City Ballet ballerina Michele Gifford in Balanchine's "Rubies pas de deux from Jewels," by special arrangement with the Balanchine Trust. Our concerts also provided free matinees for school children. We appeared in many benefit events around the city and did our first lecture demonstration at Briscoe Academy. We received a grant from the Kronkosky Foundation towards the next season. The 2007-'08 season included two concerts (Dec. '07 and May '08) with collaborations with Bett Butler, jazz pianist, vocalist, and composer; Flamenco Dancers from San Antonio Dance Academy; San Antonio Jazz Ensemble; Los Espagnoles Flamenco Dance Company; and Ciro, flamenco guitarist. As always our concerts were attended by over 1000 school children at the free matinees. An appearance at the Luminaria Arts Night in San Antonio, a lecture demonstration at Northwoods Elementary, and a grant from the San Antonio Area Foundation towards the '08-'09 season finished the year.  

  Fall 2008, AABT performed at the Carver with new choreography to Military Marches, Big Band, as well as classical offerings were combined with guest artists Michele Gifford and Andrey Prikhodka. Michele received rave reviews for her performance of Elizabeth Gillespy's "Lorelei." In addition to the activities and performances listed on the home page for Spring 2009, we did another lecture demonstration at Briscoe Academy and appeared in San Antonio's Lumenaria Arts Night.   - Judith Gani, Executive Director
